Gecond Suess
This song is about the disposable nature of humans and the carelessness with which we treat one another. I wanted to create an alienating mood, so I set the scene as a world where mass-produced robots are discarded for failing to function correctly. I didn't want to spend huge amounts of time trying to coax the right animations out of Runway, so I've used a mirror effect on much of the footage to create a hypnotic, folded-reality effect - and I think I'll continue with this in future work - I like the way it leaves you with more to guess at than the explicit storytelling of a fully constructed scene. I decided to use video of me to connect me with my music. I don't really enjoy putting myself out there as a performer, but I guess it might provide some visual context about who is writing and performing these songs. For me, the overarching narrative of each song is more important, This was a really rapid writing/recording/production/video process (probably less than 24 hours). I had the first two lines sitting in stasis for a few months, then had a sudden moment where the song kind of downloaded itself into my head, so it went from almost zero to 100% in an unusually short period of time. Here are the lyrics: A constructivism of exasperating magnitude Just an island sitting in the middle of Exploding individuals It’s like they wrote the book on how to look And think like everybody else And those of us who aren’t inclined can go to hell Just systems errors, leave them un gently on the shelf Tourniquet of unstated expectations. Did I ask the wrong question again? His crippled sense of superiority, overwhelmed by instinct, animal defensiveness Deadened faces streaming daily into these dense blocks of concrete clad monuments draped in failure embrace stasis as your nature So why don't we just second guess?
