Module 1 presents topics necessary for the understanding of key concepts in digital communications. The module reviews topics from a prerequisite systems analysis class, such as filtering and bandwidth and power spectral density. The module introduces the important topic of intersymbol interference with its roots in a bandwidth limited channel. This module includes a brief introduction to random processes, focusing on a Gaussian representation of noise. The module touches on formatting of data in a digital form.
