GeoAI: Applying Deep Learning to Geospatial Data
The 2020 IEEE-GRSS Young Professionals & ISPRS Student Consortium Brazil Summer School GeoAI: Applying Deep Learning to Geospatial Data Rohit Singh, Esri India --- Summary This session can showcase the application of AI to different types of Geospatial datasets, such as • Imagery – for object detection, pixel classification and object classification, image to image translation, edge detection, inpainting, generative modeling • 3D – for point cloud classification as well as mesh segmentation • Unstructured Text – for extracting entities and spatial information • Feature layers and raster datasets – for prediction and classification My examples will be integrated with the ArcGIS platform, given my industry affiliation. I will also include examples of integration with PyTorch, Tensorflow & ONNX. --- About the Speaker As the managing director of Esri’s AI R&D Center in New Delhi, Rohit Singh leads the development of data science, deep learning and geospatial AI solutions in the ArcGIS platform. Rohit is passionate about deep learning and its intersection with geospatial data and satellite imagery. He is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and has worked at computer vision startups and IBM before joining Esri. He conceptualized, designed and developed ArcGISPython API, ArcObjects Java, ArcGIS Engine Java API and ArcGIS Enterprise (Linux). --- The 2020 IEEE-GRSS Young Professionals & ISPRS Student Consortium Summer School is an joint event organized and hosted annually in Brazil and supported by the two main international organizations in the field of remote sensing, namely, IEEE-GRSS and ISPRS. Originally planned to be held in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais in 2020 but due to the challenging situation of COVID-19, the sixth edition of the summer school was converted to a virtual event, with the theme “Emerging Trends in Remote Sensing Science and Applied Machine Learning.” The event was organized in several talks delivered every week, starting from October 16 to December 11. The summer school aims to guide the career of young professionals as well as higher education professionals, students of courses related to the profession and graduate students who make use of remote sensing data and imagery. It consists of lectures and interactive sessions given and moderated by prominent professionals who work in the industry, teaching/research institutions and in academia. --- About the ISPRS SC The International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Student Consortium (ISPRS SC) is the official representation of the students and the youth to ISPRS. The main purpose of the ISPRS SC is to link students, young researchers and professionals in different countries, who are interested in photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information sciences. ISPRS SC also aims to provide a platform for exchange of information and to organize student-specific events and other activities that integrate students and the youth more effectively into ISPRS activities.
