Effective feedback can’t be vague or students won’t know how to action it. It needs to be specific but not so specific that it will only apply to that task. This is because feedback should move learning forward. Feedback should help students learn something they can use in the future - on tasks they have not encountered yet.
🎯 Desired effect:
Feedback should help students learn something they can use in the future and apply that understanding to new tasks.
🧠 Problems it helps solve:
“Whenever I give feedback, I get a lot of hands up because students don’t seem to understand it.”
“I put a lot of effort into feedback but students do not do anything with it. It doesn’t seem to change their understanding.”
