Goals are stupid :-)
Join the community on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/ingenioussewingprofessionals/ I'm in the mood for a little controversy today: Goals Are stupid. A little while ago I met Amy Simpkins, author of a book called "Spiral". It explains the process of innovation. It caught my attention because it perfectly applies to the process of building a business. It isn't a straight line from A to B. There is no "proven success formula" you can just follow for a smooth ride to success. It's a spiral. It's a creative process, one that requires you to head out into the unknown, to experiment, review and adjust repeatedly. Amy recently recorded a video titled "Goals Are Stupid". When I saw it I laughed out loud, could have been me saying it. I've never been able to relate to goals because - they don't motivate me. I don't work better under the pressure of an arbitrary milestone with an arbitrary deadline - the focus on an outcome achieved in a particular way limits me to what I know right now and often prevents me from seeing the better outcome or easier path just a little off to the side It's not about floating in a vacuum, it's about having a vision, a direction and moving towards it, one iteration at a time. .. So what if you ditched the goals and simply focused on the very next step in the direction of what you want to create? Are you up for the experiment?
