STUDER has been manufacturing machine beds from its own specially developed Granitan® mineral casting for decades. In comparison with machine beds made from iron-based materials, Granitan® machine beds have a more favorable thermal and better cushioning behavior. Temporary temperature fluctuations are largely compensated by the favorable thermal behavior of Granitan®. The excellent cushioning behavior of the machine bed ensures outstanding surface quality of the ground workpieces. Far fewer energy and raw material resources are consumed in the manufacture of Granitan®, in comparison with the manufacturing process for steel.
