Griffith’s Gnat – Low Light HOOK: MFC 7000– 16 (#14 - #22) THREAD: 8/0 or 70d, POST: Black (for low light) or Hi Viz orange, chartreuse, pink. BODY: Peacock herl HACKLE: grizzly, undersized NOTE: Hackle that is too long can bounce off a trout’s nose and make hookups erratic. Be sure to undersize the hackle so it’s not much more than the hook gap Fishing Tips: Fish it among clustering midges, usually in small backeddies or slow collecting areas along the bank. Greed will cause fish to eat this bigger morsel even among an emergence where there are no clustering midges.
