FROM THE ALBUM VYFTIG APOKRIEWE: https://linktr.ee/neilsandilands Expropriation of Land — The very existence of the concept speaks to the most primal counterforce to cosmic possibility. It is political. Inspired by Coleridge’s Kubla Khan, the song is composed in sections: full of hope, then stripped of all hope. It connects with other concepts in Vyftig Apokriewe: sovereignty, divinity, freedom of speech, expression, movement, and love. Language is employed to metaphorically contemplate the spirit of the times, like a tree being planted. A tree that burns. This video attempts to reflect on this matter in a non-linear, abstract way. This is intertextuality. My pet chameleon died whilst I was living in Los Angeles. I haven't experienced loss up until that point much, in terms of having cared intensely for a living creature. My behavior and actions thereafter, was a new, uncomfortable landscape. Deathly anguish and despair and yet, simultaneously, acceptance. My friend Tristan Thomas filmed me as I decided to give Dulux (my pet's name, after a paint brand) a proper and decent memorial. The song is probably the most avant garde inclusion on the album. It requires a leap in non-literal and non-lateral thinking. If you can make the leap, the profundity is indeed worth your while. It has been for me. RIP Dulux.
