GWR Lock & Block system

Thanks to the volunteers at the Kidderminster Railway Museum we get to look at the unique system of GWR lock &Block used to control trains over the single line section between Ledbury and Malvern Wells which only came out of use in the period just before Covid and n 2019 having served nearly a century in use in some form or other of the lock and block system. The demonstration at the museum shows the operation with some Artistic leeway for not having a real world railway line connected and anteater’s and track occupancy are via switches under the demonstration but we get to see how the system worked and a little bit of history aside The museum itself is somewhere we would recommend spending a few hours and if you speak tomorrow contact the museum itself the volunteers have many of the exhibits wired up to show how they work and are more than happy to show the history and operation of what is a living exhibition.
