Fun (and slightly gruesome) fact: to 'hamstring' someone in the old days meant to sever the tendons behind the knee and render them useless and immobile. Yeesh. 🔪
We're just gonna palpate them today...
📍Origin: Ischial tuberosity, lateral lip of linea aspera (short head of bicep fem only)
📍Insertion:
Biceps femoris: head of the fibula
Semitendinosus: medial/ant tibia at the pes anserine tendon
Semimembranosus: posterior medial tibial condyle
📍Action: Extend the hip, flex the knee, medial rotation of hip and knee (semitend/semimemb), lateral rotation of the hip and knee (bicep fem)
