First, I cut a thick slab of porcelain clay from the block. I have calculated the thickness of the slab to get 9 small thin espresso sized slabs and two bottoms. The process is simple. As I mentioned in my last post I pick small amounts of blue and white clay and mix them with my fingertips until I get a marble effect that looks interesting. I repeat this step as many times as needed until the slab is covered with color. The interior of the cup is as important as the exterior, so it must have a beautiful and unique look. For this reason, I cover both sides of the slab. If you'll like the interior of your cup to be white, you can leave it as it is. Once ready I use a rolling pin to flatten the surface and eliminate any air bubbles. You can use the rolling pin and some measuring sticks to roll out your clay and achieve the desired thickness for the slab. You can also use a slab roller or a pasta machine :).
