Has BART Failed Oakland?
When you look at BART's coverage of Oakland, it feels as though there is something missing. The stop spacing is much wider than you'd expect in an urban area, and the lines that do exist completely disregard many Black or low-income neighborhoods. This neglect clearly tells us what BART's original goals were - to get affluent suburban commuters to San Francisco, treating Oakland as though it were yet another suburb.
