In Singapore Secondary School Math, Prime Factorisation is a basic but essential concept students are encountering and adopting when dealing with questions involving HCF and LCM. Usually, for questions involving HCF and LCM, students are not allowed to use a calculator to solve them. To solve questions on HCF and LCM using Prime Factorisation, students need to have a solid foundation (a pre-requisite) in Primary School (P4) Math on Factors and Multiples. In this video, students are taught how to extend their P4 knowledge on Factors and Multiples to tackle questions on HCF and LCM using Prime Factorisation. Students are also learning how to express LCM and HCF using Index Notation. An example from GCE 'O' Level (2010) is discussed in this video to better illustrate on how to use Prime Factorisation and Index Notation to find HCF and LCM.
