In this video I follow up on the idea from the first in this group. To discuss why it is vital to understand that HDDs are installed in HCAs and show examples of the types of coating damage that lies beneath the ground. You will see and learn about how this damage occurs and I touch briefly on the idea why CP doesn't work in HDD installations. Unfortunately this one isn't free, but if you are a NACE member you can probably download it. https://store.nace.org/phmsa-regulation-on-hdd-coating-and-prci-guidance-30795 If you would like to see a very good video produced by Williams Pipeline, follow this link, it will provide an excellent visual if you want to see what the HDD process looks like. https://www.williams.com/2018/03/14/new-williams-video-details-trenchless-pipeline-construction-method/ This is a video that goes into the stress analysis of HDD design, if you watch through this and understand the amount of stress that steel is under, you can just imagine the stress on a coating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dGxtk2i-l8 Here are some more links that you might find helpful in evaluating the quality of my work. For those of you interested in Field Applied FBE, somebody recorded one of my descriptions on the process years ago and I recently found it on youtube. This will show the process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6kesn-JnVM This is a link to an article I wrote for Materials Performance magazine discussing the value of Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD Coatings) protective coatings. https://www.materialsperformance.com/articles/coating-linings/2017/09/the-hidden-damage-done-to-protective-coatings I also recently discovered that one of my presentations discussing the coating damage related to HDD pipeline installations has been uploaded by the NACE Houston chapter. Here you will find images and some more details relating to pipeline coating damage. http://www.nace-houston.org/images/The_Hidden_Damage_Done_HDD_Ron_Raphoon.pdf One of the larger pipeline coating companies in the world also had me co-author a paper that was published in World Pipelines magazine in August 2018. Here is a link that once again discusses coating damage during HDD installation. http://www.canusacps.com/non_html/reference/WP_August2018.pdf This link is to a presentation I put together in 2015 regarding soil to air transitions. This was specifically requested of me and the presentation was given to the Texas Gulf section NACE chapter. https://www.nace-txlagulfsection.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Soil-to-Air-Corrosion-Presentation-06-17-2014.pdf My Website: http://raphoon.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/raphoon/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PipeCoatings/
