Hecq - Nightfalls

Track 1/12, from Night Falls (Hymen Records ¥767). And here we begin our trip into space, thanks to, in my opinion, one of the best modern classical works in these last years. Mainly built around long crescendos and decrescendos of strings, this (almost) eponym track is a fantastic opener. As I said, I see Night Falls as a space travel, entailing meditation and inner peace thanks to the vision of the endless size of the cosmos, and all the celestial events happening there. We could probably describe that as a spiritual travel. The violins, the cellos and the double-basses answer each others through the 287 seconds, almost in a metronomic way, making me think of a gigantic lighthouse guiding your departure in the right direction to the skies. A sonic beam, pushing you more and more out of the atmosphere at each sweeping and leading you to the opposite direction, where faded female and male choirs are calling you from 3:16. You can't block this force and anyway, you don't want to ; you feel attracted to the hugeness facing you. At 4:21, the volume of the strings decreases, marking the point of no return, while you observe the size of the Earth shrinking and barely transforming into a pale blue dot behind you. A promising future awaits you. Beside that, I strongly advise you to listen to the rework of this track that was released in September 2013 on the latest Hecq release, named Horror Vacui. Christoph Berg, more known as Field Rotation, closed this album with a fantastic piece of modern classical music, keeping the foundations of the tracks but adding just what it needs of personal touch to create a pretty new track.
