I just like playing Helldivers 2… along with a LOT of other games.
Current rotation:
1. Helldivers 2
2. Deadlock
3. DBZ Sparking Zero
4. The Scouring
5. Space Marine 2
6. Age of Empires IV
7. Deep Rock Galactic
8. Turtle WoW (RIP ☠️😭)
9. Warhammer: Return of Reckoning
10. Guild Wars 2 PvP
If you notice, that’s a pretty wide variety of games. Some of them are “dead games.” Some lost huge portions of their playerbase. One is completely discontinued. Another survives because of a small dedicated dev team.
And yet… people still play them because they genuinely enjoy them.
That’s the part of gaming discourse I’ll never understand. A game loses players and suddenly people scream: “SEE? DEAD GAME. BAD GAME.”
Meanwhile, the people actually playing the game are just having fun.
We’ve seen this cycle happen over and over:
A new game launches → influencers hype it up → massive crowd jumps in → people expect the game to become their entire personality for 10 years → they burn out and move on → suddenly the game is “dead.”
Not every game needs millions of players to be fun.
At the end of the day, play what you enjoy. If you stop enjoying it, take a break or move on. It’s really that simple.
Gaming becomes way more fun when you stop treating player counts like a stock market.
