This little patch started following the first, and most basic patch idea from @modularcuriosity 's demo of the Bifaco Rampage inside of VCV Rack. More broadly, I learned that such a thing is typically called a function generator. Previously, this phrase somewhat made me tune out since it too closely reminded me of the quadratic equations I could never seem to solve correctly in algebra class! So for now, I prefer to think of this as an AR envelope generator, which the Modular Curiosity host pointed out, could be used to turn short triggers from a sequencer or clock into longer sounds. I want to try a few of the other patch ideas he suggests later. With this one though, I wanted to create a “glitter effect”; a light, shimmery slush of very short notes like you’d hear in the background of an R&B or ambient track. That very quickly went off the rails though when I decided to also incorporate an exercise from the module 5 workbook where @sarahbellereid suggests applying the same random voltage to four different parameters simultaneously! I have recently discovered the laugh-inducing pitch-shift properties that happen when you change the time on a delay, or even a reverb! Now, if this becomes a more fully fleshed-out composition, I think I will call it “herding cats!” There is delightful, silly variation in the timing and timbre, even without changing the speed of the sequencer at all!!
