High yield tips for residency interviews
My first (and probably only) video, but I hope the content is better than the video quality! Hope it helps and good luck! :) Before the interview: - Choose away rotations carefully - Choose vacation months or easier rotations during the peak of interview season - Read about the residency programs - Ask for a list of your interviewers and research them - Play to your strengths (“show and tell”) - Know your weaknesses - Know your CV - Anticipate what questions you will be asked - Be nice to the coordinator - Set up an excel sheet to record your experiences at each program - Arrive early to your destination and have fun! During the interview: - Talk about the fun you’ve had so far in the new city - Be yourself - Be nice to everyone - Take notes about each interviewer so you can thank you personally later - Bring copies of your updated CV (ideally on nice paper) - Be prepared for possible “illegal questions” (just answer broadly) - Make a pro and cons list (or fill out your excel sheet) right after your interview After the interview: - Do your thank you emails immediately (can use a template, can attach a picture of yourself having fun there) - Before ranking occurs, send a follow-up emails to express your interested in your top programs - Ask mentors to call the program director of your #1 program to support you After the match: - Keep in contact with the people you’ve met - Remember to thank everyone who helped you along your journey :)
