*Update* 14 April 2018: BSI has alleviated this situation quite a bit. Images from the D850 have improved substantially over the D810 and D800. I still believe the number of pixels on a senor has reached the absurd. Like the Big 3 American automakers fighting their ridiculous musclecar horsepower wars, the camera makers are fighting their ridiculous megapixel wars.
Original description from 30 MAY 2015: Resolution and detail are good, but there is a point of diminishing returns, where image quality suffers when too many pixels are placed on a sensor.
