Problem statement: QuickSight currently does not support parameters for conditional formatting, which often leads users to hard-code thresholds for data highlights. The challenge with this approach is that these thresholds may vary by period or from one user to another; an amount or percentage suitable for one user may not be relevant for another. Ideally, users should be able to set their own thresholds, allowing the dashboard to highlight variances based on these custom parameters. This video explains how to achieve it, focusing on highlighting percentage difference (%) month-over-month (period-over-period). 0:00 Intro & demo of final result 0:36 Instructions 1:04 Step 1 - Create a Parameter 1:17 Step 2 - Add Control based on parameter 1:44 Step 3 - Add calculated field - calculate % variance period-over-period 2:58 Step 4 - Add calculated field - compare period-over-period % change from step #3 with Param from step #1 3:32 Step 4 - Add Conditional Formatting Rules based on calculated field from step #4 #quicksight #aws #amazonquicksight #businessintelligence #dashboard
