Hip Labral Reconstruction
In this video, we demonstrate hip labral reconstruction, an advanced arthroscopic procedure used to restore function and stability in patients with labral deficiency or irreparable tears. The hip labrum is a ring of cartilage that lines the rim of the acetabulum, helping to maintain joint stability and create a suction seal between the femoral head and socket. When the labrum is severely damaged, reconstruction using a graft may be required to restore normal joint mechanics. 🔧 Procedure Overview The procedure is performed arthroscopically through standard portals. The surgeon first prepares the acetabular surface using a burr to create an optimal environment for graft attachment. The size of the labral defect is measured, and pilot holes are drilled to accommodate knotless anchors. A tendon graft, often harvested from the iliotibial band, is measured, shaped, and secured with sutures to create a stable construct for implantation. The graft is then fixed to the acetabulum using knotless PushLock® anchors, beginning medially and progressing laterally, with a central anchor added after graft positioning. Finally, traction is released and a dynamic assessment is performed to confirm restoration of the suction seal and proper articulation between the femoral head and acetabulum. ✅ Key Benefits of Labral Reconstruction Restores hip joint stability and biomechanics Recreates the suction seal of the hip Effective for irreparable labral damage Minimally invasive arthroscopic approach Preserves native joint and delays degeneration 🦵 Clinical Applications This procedure is commonly used for: Irreparable hip labral tears Labral deficiency or degeneration Failed prior labral repair Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)-related damage Hip instability 🏃 Recovery & Outcomes Postoperative care typically includes: Protected weight-bearing Controlled range-of-motion exercises Progressive strengthening With proper rehabilitation, patients often regain improved stability, reduced pain, and better hip function. 🎯 Who This Video Is For Orthopedic surgeons & residents Hip arthroscopy specialists Sports medicine professionals Patients researching advanced hip surgery 👇 Helpful Arthrex Reference Links: https://www.arthrex.com/resources/VID1-005537-en-US/acl-reconstruction-using-the-presutured-speedgraft-achilles-tendon https://www.arthrex.com?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video_description&utm_campaign=wno_knee&utm_content=seVfrZIumyo_tutorial 👍 Like, comment, and subscribe to see more patient success stories and innovations in minimally invasive orthopedic procedures.
