Beauty From the Beast | Historic Bruces Surf Session at St Francis Bay | Massive Storm Swell May 2026 What an unbelievable experience here in St Francis Bay last week. After one of the biggest storms to hit the Eastern Cape in over 20 years — with 100km/h winds, relentless flooding, and huge ocean energy pounding the coastline — the legendary Bruces came to life in spectacular fashion. This video documents 4 days of massive storm swell as it unfolded across South Africa’s most iconic right-hand point break. From brutal weather and giant seas to clean lines and perfect barrels, this was one of the most memorable surf events ever witnessed at Bruces. Day three saw big wave world champion Grant 'Twiggy' Baker and local charger Billy Payne attack the heavy lineup on jet skis as powerful 8ft swell wrapped through the bay, making paddle access nearly impossible. Then on May 8th, 2026, everything aligned. Perfect offshore winds, endless groomed lines, and some of the best surf ever seen at Bruces. Heavy tubes, flawless walls, and unforgettable rides lit up this historic session at St Francis Bay. Having lived here since 1988, I can honestly say this was one of the greatest days of surf I’ve ever filmed.
