How Does Competency-Based Education Benefit Students?
How can we ensure that students have the time they need to master content while meeting district timelines? In a traditional classroom, time is held constant, while the degree to which students master new material varies. Competency-based learning environments, on the other hand, flip the script: learning is constant, but the time that it takes students to demonstrate mastery is the variable. While making school or district-wide shifts to a high-fidelity competency-based approach to teaching and learning takes considerable time itself, our CBE series is here to give provide a few strategies you can implement right away to provide more flexibility in the school day, regardless of where students are physically learning. --------------- ⏰ KEY MOMENTS ⏰ 00:00 ➡️ Introduction 01:27 ➡️ How is a competency different from a standard? 01:59 ➡️ What’s the different between standards-based learning and competency-based learning? 02:43 ➡️ Using competencies to build transferrable skills for students 03:24 ➡️ Examples of competency-based learning in the classroom --------------- ⭐️ If you are looking for more ways to create student-centered learning opportunities, check out our competency-based education playlist, where we will also share the next videos in the series: https://youtu.be/W-efFSQmOvc --------------- Follow us --------------- Education Elements Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/EdElements Education Elements Website: https://www.edelements.com/ Education Elements Blog: https://hubs.ly/Q012vcvB0 --------------- About us --------------- Our mission is to shape a more equitable and just future by changing how people design for each student’s potential. -- Education Elements believes that schools grow when people grow.
