The Mosin-Nagant was designed by Sergei Mosin and Émile Nagant in 1891. It was officially adopted by the Russian Empire as the 3-Line Rifle M1891. The design combined Mosin's bolt-action mechanism with Nagant's magazine system.
The rifle saw extensive use in various conflicts, including the Russo-Japanese War, World War I, Russian Civil War, World War II, and even conflicts in the Cold War era1. It was also widely distributed to Soviet allies and used in wars in Afghanistan, Vietnam, and Iraq.
Over 37 million Mosin-Nagant rifles were produced, making it one of the most mass-produced rifles in history. Production continued until 1973.
