How Much Does a New Engine Cost?
So how much does a freshly overhauled zero time Lycoming 0320 engine really cost? There are many places that you can buy an engine, and this was how I made my decision to buy a new engine for my 1968 Cessna 177 Cardinal. I need a warranty anything you buy over several thousand dollars needs a warranty with it and the engine is an expensive big ticket item and I need to buy it from a reputable company that will stand behind their work and is your warranty. That alone limits it down to a handful of companies. It came down to two companies and the cost difference was only $1000 apart however the lead time was what drew me to the final decision. I decided to go with Airmark overhaul out of Fort Lauderdale Florida. They were amazing to deal with on the phone and they gave me a written quote and spelled every little detail out. So the price out the door with an exchange of my old engine was $22,550 and this came with new Lycoming cylinders from the factory it came with new magnetos new magneto harness new spark plugs a new carburetor a new starter and the best part was a one year or 480 hour warranty at 100% and a limited pro rated warranty that’ll continue to two years or TBO, whichever occurs from the date of the overhaul. Accessories or also warranted for six months or 240 hours. Yes! I bought an airplane! This program has some initial numbers and breaks down the monthly expenses.
