How much more
Matthew 7:11 (NIV) states: "If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!" This verse highlights God's generous nature as a Father, contrasting human imperfection with His perfect willingness to provide for those who ask Him. Jesus uses an argument from the lesser to the greater. If imperfect human parents instinctively give good things to their children rather than harmful things (like bread instead of a stone), a perfect God will certainly do the same. Part of the Sermon on the Mount, this verse follows the commands to "ask, seek, and knock" (Matthew 7:7–8), serving as a promise that God hears and answers with good things. The verse refers to humanity's inherent sinful nature compared to God’s holiness, yet even in that state, humans have a capacity for providing love to their children. The core message is that God is a loving and generous Father who desires to provide what is best for His children. God gives what is truly good and beneficial, which may not always be exactly what we ask for, but rather what we truly need. This verse is intended to remove fear and anxiety from prayer, encouraging believers to approach God with confidence.
