The valve is unique compared to other types of valves as it has very few parts. Pinch valves are cheap compared to other types of valve. The pressure drop associated with this valve is very low, this is because flow through the valve is almost unobstructed when the valve is fully open. The valve consists of a body, cartridge, end plate and sleeve. Valves can be purchased with all parts, or, its possible to purchase only the sleeve and insert it into an existing valve body. Because the valve has so few parts, it is very well suited to applications where leakage or foreign body contamination is not desired. The valve has a large seating area that gives it good seating abilities which reduces the likelihood of the valve passing. Pinch valves can be operated locally, or remotely. They can also be actuated mechanically, electrically, hydraulically or pneumatically. The response time of the valve (time from fully open to fully closed, or vice versa), can be very low for hydraulic and pneumatically actuated type valves. Typical applications include slurry systems (liquids with large amounts of suspended bodies) and pneumatic systems conveying solids (granules).
