Over the weekend my son asked me to show him how to forge a knife. So I grabbed an old rasp and walked him through it. One of the most difficult parts for new smiths is the tip. If you just hammer straight down on a corner it push's that corner forward and down, your anvil pushes the other corner forward and up causing the center to move backwards. You end up with something that looks akin to fishlips. I also included some quick video's of testing the knife and some photo's of the finished product at the end. Handle is Osage orange with black leather liners and brass pins. Please leave a comment with what you would like to see us make in the future.
