This is a short smiley video to demonstrate how to make your own nichrome pyrography tips for interchangeable tip post (ITP) pens. I love creating tips ... its a great way to expand your mark making within your work and it's also a super cheap way to try out new tip shapes if you are thinking of buying a fixed tip pen. Think of tips as the paintbrush for the pyrographer...
All you need for basic tips are -
NiChrome wire (gauge to suit your machine)
Wire Cutters
Round Nose Pliers
Ruler
Screwdriver to fit your ITP
For Skews & Shaders add on -
Ball Pein Hammer
Makeshift Anvil (I use the side of an old lump hammer)
An old hand file & some fine grade sandpaper (200-400ish grit)
As always check your machine will be compatable with the tips you are making. Shaders tend to draw more power (larger surface area of metal) so may require a heavy duty cord (thin cord can get too hot).... And of course ... Make sure the machine is always switched off and the pen is cool!
Enjoy xx
