Do you struggle with knowing how to stack a tiered cake? Do you find your tiered cakes a little unstable or have you had a cake fall over? I'm here to help! As a cake decorator here are my TOP TIPS for how you should think about the structure you need to create inside your cakes to enable you to place your cakes on top of each other. I am going to be showing you how I prepare, dowel and stack my cakes. We need to create a structure inside the cake to stop the weight of the cake collapsing. Cake + buttercream + fondant + toppers can get heavy! I will be stacking a 5, 7 & 9 inch fondant covered cake and going through how to choose the correct dowels, how many you need and where you need to place them in your cakes to build a solid structure. ⭐ My Top Tips for stacking your cake: •Think about the structure inside your cake as a table. Each tier will have a table that sits inside which the next tier sits on top of. •Think of the dowels as your table legs and the board as your table top. •The boards you choose are important. You want to choose boards that don't bend and flex. I like to use drum boards (This is extremely important for the board your entire cake sits on too. You don't want the cake to move when you carry it). • All your dowels need to be the exact same length and level when added into your cake. If one of the dowels is shorter you're going to have a wobbly table! • A central dowel can be used for extra stability, but make sure you secure it into your bottom cake board else it can move with your cake! I really hope you enjoy the tutorial and it will help the next time you have a stacked birthday cake or wedding cake to create.
