For children in the Autism Spectrum, Sensory Processing Disorder, poor self-regulation, “joint compression” is an effective way to provide proprioceptive inputs to the joints of the body which helps children/people know where their body is in the environment.
Due to the possibility of administering joint compressions incorrectly and to avoid potential harm or injury to the child, joint compressions should ALWAYS be apppied by a licensed therapist or a family member who has been trained to do them by a licensed therapist.
