How to Initialize Disk without Losing Data (MBR or GPT)
Have you ever connected a brand new hard drive or the one you've been using for years to your computer only to realize it's not initialized? In today's video, I'll show you how to initialize a disk without losing data. ✅ Hard drive data recovery software: https://bit.ly/3WNaXrR Chapters: 00:00 Intro 00:18 What uninitialized drive means 01:05 Troubleshoot the connection 01:44 Recover data from an uninitialized disk 04:17 Initialize the drive 05:28 Wrap up 🧐 *Step 1: Assess the State of the Hard Drive* * If your hard drive is brand new (just purchased or newly installed in your PC), you can initialize it without any data loss. * If the drive already contains data and shows errors like "disk 0 unknown not initialized" or "disk 1 unknown not initialized," it means the file system or partition table is corrupted and your computer can't read the data. 🔌 *Step 2: Troubleshoot the Connection* For external hard drives, try different cables, docking stations, restarting your computer, or even testing on another computer/operating system. _This helps ensure that the issue lies with the drive’s file system—not with a poor connection or faulty hardware._ 💾 *Step 3: Recover Data from Uninitialized Disk* Since your files are still on the disk but inaccessible, you need to recover them before reinitializing the drive. For this task we are going to be using Disk Drill. Disk Drill is a cross-platform recovery tool that: * Uses powerful algorithms to search for and recover files. * Is compatible with virtually any drive and can recover a wide range of file types. * Can scan drives with an incomplete or corrupt file system—even if the drive appears as RAW or uninitialized. ✅ *To recover data from an uninitialized disk:* 1. Download and install the free version of Disk Drill. 2. Ensure your uninitialized disk is connected to your computer and open Disk Drill. 3. With Disk Drill open, you'll see a list of all connected drives. _Optional: For a corrupted drive, consider creating a byte-to-byte backup and scanning that backup for extra safety._ 4. Select your drive from the list and click Search for Lost Data. 5. As the scan runs, your files will begin to appear in real time. 6. Click the review button to view all recovered items. Use the icon view to preview files and check their chances of recovery. 7. Choose to recover all files (or select individual files if you prefer) by checking the appropriate box. 8. Click Recover and choose a save location on a different drive to avoid overwriting any data. _Note: With the Windows version of Disk Drill, you can recover up to 500MB of data for free._ 🛠️ *Step 4: Initialize a Hard Drive* Once your files are safely recovered, it's time to initialize your drive. To initialize disk without losing data: 1. Open the Disk Management tool by typing it into your Start menu and selecting it. 2. Locate your uninitialized disk in the list, right-click on it, and select Initialize. 3. In the initialization wizard, choose between two partition standards: _MBR – An older standard for drives smaller than 2TB or for older operating systems._ _GPT – The current standard that supports larger drives, multiple partitions, and greater flexibility. (Recommended for most users.)_ 4. After initialization, right-click on the unallocated space and select New Simple Volume. 5. Follow the wizard steps to choose your drive letter, name, and ensure that Quick Format is checked. 6. Your drive should now be online and fully functional. 🔴 RECOMMENDED VIDEOS 4 Methods to Fix Corrupted Hard Drive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEpcJjoelLk How to Recover Data from a RAW Hard Drive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_e4D_2bu8LE How to Recover Data from a Wiped/Erased Hard Drive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZlvHsjvQT4 #harddriverecovery #datarecovery
