How To Install A Timber Ceiling | Van Conversion

Installing Pine Lining Timber Boards as the Ceiling in a Toyota HiAce - Natural Stained Finish In this video I walk through the process of creating a timber ceiling for my Toyota HiAce campervan. I'll show you how I installed pine lining timber boards, sourced from Bunnings, to achieve a nice natural stained finish that will complement the overall beige/timber aesthetic of the van. Sourcing the right timber for the HiAce's ceiling was a major consideration. Since the ceiling length is approximately 2.7 meters, I needed lightweight tongue and groove boards in either 2.7 or 5.4-meter lengths. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the exact lengths I wanted, as Bunnings only had 5.4-meter pre-primed boards, and other timber yards offered a maximum length of 4.8 meters. To prioritize my desired aesthetic, I opted to purchase six 4.8-meter bare pine lining boards from Bunnings. This meant I had enough boards to cover the entire ceiling, with only four lengths requiring butt joints. Luckily, the tongue and groove design helped keep the boards aligned, and I could conceal most of the joins near the ceiling fan and behind future cupboards. Attention to detail was absolutely crucial in this step! Seamless transitions between the ceiling and the walls are vital for creating a professional look in any van build. I'm extremely pleased with how neatly it has concluded the "preparation" phase of the van build. The effort invested in achieving this result was definitely worth it!
