How to install a vortex flow meter

In this video, you will learn important information about how to install an SV vortex flow meter from ifm, as well as how to access the written guidelines from the product datasheet on the ifm website. Designed for industrial use, the vortex flow meter from ifm performs best when used with water-based liquid media. The vortex flow principle relies on a wedge-shaped bluff body and a sensor element integrated into the measuring pipe. The flowing medium generates swirling vortices behind the bluff body that are detected by the sensing element. The frequency of the vortex formation is proportional to the flow rate. Using embedded IO-Link technology, you can monitor flow rate, temperature, and switching status with this sensor and send the process data back to higher level software systems for additional visualization, historical recordkeeping, and value trending. This sensor is commonly used in industrial welding applications and monitoring general cooling water on critical machinery. Since the sensing principle doesn’t rely on conductive media, this flow sensor can be used with deionized water. Keep in mind that vortices do not form well in oil, so these sensors are not recommended for use with oil-based media.
