How to keep perspective while practicing and performing (featuring John Denver)

We are working on Advanced techniques in on the song Country Roads by John Denver which poses an interesting challenge as there is no piano part in the original recording. To solve this problem we did a listening exercise to identify the elements of the song that we can then imitate on the piano. But, before we get into the technical, I believe it is important to engage with the emotion of the song. I think students get too worried about the technical aspects of playing piano, and it can be helpful to engage emotionally first.
