One of the simplest, quickest and most satisfying science experiments you can perform with your kids - simply adding a little food colouring, washing up liquid and bicarbonate of soda to a citrus fruit will make it bubble and fizz like a tiny, colourful volcano! The acid in the fruit reacts with the bicarbonate of soda, releasing gas that bubbles through the water, food colouring and detergent. Some parental supervision is needed because of the sharp knife, but the rest of this experiment is easy to perform even for a toddler - and will delight children and grown ups of all ages! Which citrus fruit works best? You decide! We're posting science activities all through British Science Week, and if you are itching to try even more experiments at home you can now pre-order your first Letterbox Lab kit at a whopping discount, ready for launch on April 18th. Amaze friends, build thinamijigs and play with science with a Letterbox Lab subscription box! Everything you need to play with science, straight through your letterbox.
