How to Make Deconstructed Type with Adobe Illustrator | Adobe Creative Cloud

Slice, dice, and duplicate text, and then add a wave to create a stylish typographic poster. Featured Artist: Erica Larson. Choose the Selection tool (V) and click the word SOUNDWAVE. 2. Right-click and choose Create Outlines. Click on the black background to deselect the word. 3. Swap the Fill and Stroke (Set Fill to none and Stroke to white). 4. Choose the Rectangle tool and draw a rectangle around SOUNDWAVE. 5. Select Object – Path – Split Into Grid. Set the grid to 10 rows and 1 column. Click OK. 6. Choose the Selection tool and drag to select SOUNDWAVE and the grid. 7. From the Pathfinders section of the Properties panel, click More Options (icon with 3 dots), then Divide. 8. Use the Selection tool to select the text and grid. Choose Object – Ungroup. 9. Choose the Magic Wand tool, click the grid, then press the delete key. 10. Press Control+Y (Windows), Command+Y (macOS), to switch to outline mode. Create a wavy pattern: 1. Choose the Selection tool and drag to select SOUNDWAVE. 2. Use Alt (or Option)+drag to move a duplicate above the original. 3. Drag to select a small portion from the bottom of the newly duplicated word. Press delete. 4. Repeat steps 1 and 2, deleting slightly more from the bottom of SOUNDWAVE for each new instance of the word. 5. Press Control (Command)+Y to switch from outline mode. 6. Select all instances of the SOUNDWAVE text. 7. From the Pathfinders section, choose Unite. 8. Select Effect – Warp – Wave. Choose Vertical and set Bend to -25%. 9. Draw a rectangle across the entire poster. Fill it with your color of choice, or a gradient. 10. With the rectangle still selected, click the Opacity label in the Properties panel, set the Blend mode to Darken. That's it!
