In this video we discuss how to quickly make or generate a basic pie chart with percentages in excel. We go through a detailed example step by step of the process Transcript/notes To make a basic pie chart with percentages in excel, you need to have labels in a column and data for those labels in a column, such as in this example worksheet, where I have departments and sales for each of those departments. From here, left click and hold and drag over all of the labels and data, so here, cell A2, over to cell B7, then release the click and hold so the cells are highlighted. Next, make sure you are on the insert tab near the top of the worksheet. Then, in the charts area near the top of the worksheet, left click on the down arrow next to this pie chart icon, and a drop down box will appear with some options. If you hover over these, you will see a preview of the different pie charts. I am going to select a basic 2D chart, by left clicking on the icon. From here, you can left click and hold in an open area on the chart a move the chart to a desired location. Next, if you left click on the title text, you can change the title, as you see I am doing here. To edit the chart, left click on the Chart Design text near the top of the worksheet, and a new ribbon will appear, where you can make modifications. To add in percentages to the pie pieces, left click on the down arrow in the add chart element icon and a drop down box will appear. In the box, hover over data label options and another box will appear. In this box, at the bottom, left click on more data label options, and a side bar will appear to the right, as you see here. In here, under label options, left click on box for percentage, and you can check or uncheck the box for value, if you want to use or not use the values. Next, in the label position section below, you can choose the position of the percentages, I am going to select the outside end. Then you can left click the x to close the side bar, and now the chart is complete with percentages.
