Hello Beautiful Humans! Today I am walking you through my process for preparing the lace I purchased from @divergent.threads now that I have finally made time to work on the 16th century ruff I purchased it for. If you are not familiar with Amber's work in the Historical Costuming Community she is pretty epic in my opinion. She also has a store front where she sells historically inspired lace made with a modern embroidery machine on water soluble interfacing. She has a lot of great information on how that works on her channel. I don't own an embroidery machine so I can't help a whole lot with how this process works. Definitely check her out if you have more questions about how to make the lace, her digitizing software, or inspirations. The piece I am using has an anachronistic twist with small Star Wars Rebellion symbols worked into the pattern. I remember them being part of a fundraiser she was doing for protesters back in 2020. This video is not sponsored. I just really loved her products. DSA Threads YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/@dsathreads DSA Threads Website www.dsathreads.net Patterns for lace change over time. Different styles, motifs, sizes, etc can be popular in different regions and for different garments across history. I love that Amber has gone in and looked at pattern books for the Renaissance and 17th century to get an idea of the correct styles for her laces. I've included some pattern books and historical costuming books below if you are interested in doing a deep dive on this research as well. Yes this pattern has Star Wars Rebel Alliance symbols in each point, but many of her laces look like they fell right out of a pattern book.
