This video goes over how you remove required master from a mod. Specifically using Wrye Bash, and SSEEdit.

As another user pointed out to me, you can quickly find errors that are reported back:
"Control click on the reference in the message box and it'll jump right to the problem record then either delete it completely or remove the element that refers to the master that you wanna clean. Then hit the big Clean Masters button"
