This high-production robotic laser weld cell was designed to help a customer overcome the growing challenge of skilled welder shortages while improving weld consistency, heat control, and throughput. Previously, the customer relied on manual GTAW (TIG) welding to create hermetic seal welds on thin-wall stainless steel cans and lids used in high-reliability military battery cells. But with labor constraints and rising production demands, they needed an automated solution that could reduce operator dependency without sacrificing quality. Weldlogic’s Welding Services Group (WSI) validated a low heat input laser weld process, which our engineering team used to develop a fully robotic cell. Featuring a precision tool plate with multiple sensor-equipped pockets, the system automatically detects each part, applies the correct weld schedule, and skips empty pockets — all without requiring a highly skilled operator. Now, this laser cell delivers clean, repeatable, hermetic welds — with the productivity and reliability our customer needed to scale up without compromise. 📞 Need expert welding solutions?
