How to Setup a Dot Matrix Printer

In this video I'm going to revisit my Panasonic KX-P1080i 9-pin DMP and showing you how to set one up. Keep in mind the technology is old and not every system will be able to run a dot matrix printer but, if you do they are pretty easy to setup. 1) Connect the printer to a parallel port. this can be on your computer or on a network print server. 2) Install the printer, for this you might need the driver 3) setup your print job. In windows this will require setting the LPT port number, adjusting the margins and sending the job to the print queue. In DOS you can just copy your document to the printer port or allow your program to send the document for you 4) make sure you are using the right paper, if you want to use continuous feed paper you need the tractor edges and disable the friction feed at the roller. For single sheet paper they will need to be fed one sheet at a time. 5) Enjoy your new vintage printing device and explore what it can do.
