It is especially useful for designing airflow openings in enclosures, electronics housings, HVAC components, or any sheet-metal product needing patterned air passages. SOLIDWORKS Sheet Metal Vent Tool — Description The Vent feature allows you to combine cutouts and raised ribs in a single operation. Instead of manually sketching cut-extrudes and separate forming features, the Vent tool automates the design. What You Can Create with the Vent Tool Vent cutouts – openings for airflow, often based on sketch geometry. Ribs – thin raised edges around cutouts to strengthen the sheet metal. Webs – cross-bracing or grid-like connections between vent openings. Domes / louvers – strengthened raised features that form around the vent area (not a true louver feature, but similar). How the Vent Tool Works Create a sketch that defines: Boundary of the vent (outer perimeter) Rib lines (optional) Web lines (optional) Activate Insert → Sheet Metal → Vent. In the Vent PropertyManager, you can: Select the vent boundary. Select rib and web sketches separately.
