Hurricane Elvis
Well the pecan pie tree came crashing down And the wind was hollering like a train so loud But Papa knew this day would come he’d been canning the fruit and loading up his guns He said he had I vision of judgment day All the birds in the pecan tree flew away And the big red Memphis sun went dark Then hurricane Elvis tore right through the yard He said “I asked the lord now what should I do The ‘lord said save what you can, pickle it too’” So he built him a garden and filled up the shed With every last pecan that fell on Papa’s head Yes he did Oh I’ll never forget that morning in July You know the night before we had pecan pie Woke up to the sound of branches burying the roof But we made it to the hallway before they buried us too You know some of the neighbors thought paw was a fool Talking about end times instead of playing it cool Even today he’s the talk of the town Except now they call him a prophet instead of a clown And the pecan pie tree’s now dead and gone And the garden will follow not after long But you can find me and papa canning, pickling still ‘Cause the King’s coming back someday But you never know when he will Yeah the King’s coming back someday But you never know when he will Written produced, recorded and performed by Jeremiah Harmon. www.jeremiahharmonmusic.com
