Surgeon highlights Liver Hydatid Cyst, specifically the cause, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment. This is a cystic condition of the liver but may occur in lungs and other organs. It is common in sheep rearing countries of the world. It is caused by the larval form the parasite in humans who are accidental intermediate hosts. The symptoms are dependent on size and location of the cyst. The diagnosis is dependent on imaging (ultrasound, CT or MRI scans) and blood tests. Treatment consists of medication, and direct treatment of the cyst which may be radiological or surgical.
