Hyperlapse Video of Place Command

Hyperlapse video of Scout holding place while I clean up. I was able to mop, all of the hardwood floors - (which required me to go out of sight for several minutes down each hallway), unload/load the dishwasher, wipe down all the countertops and stove top and of course pick up along the way. This one command requires Scout to demonstrate self control in order to stay put and refrain from following after me. It helps me to not have a dog in my way or walking around messing up my clean / wet floors. It also helps Scout to realize that she doesn't have to match my every step as I will be returning numerous times. Normally, I do this activity while the dog has the e collar on, but unfortunately I forgot to charge it, so she is without it. She actually is only wearing a slip lead. However, once she goes home in order to transfer her understanding of the commands to her home life, I will instruct her owners to use the e collar during such times. The e collar gives me the ability to correct her from a distance if need be, but you can see she only breaks once. That mistake, brings me to my next points. Affection can be very distracting and even exciting for many dogs. You can tell that she gets excited when I stop to calmly pet her. This is just another thing for us to work on. Mistakes provide opportunities for clarifying things. Any interaction while a dog is on place should be very calm. I am not talking to her in an excited manner and my petting it slow and calm essentially "massage-like" to promote calmness. It may not seem that way because the video is sped up, but it is. Everything associated with place should be calm. Think of the place bed or cot as your dog's yoga mat. Noone joins you on your mat and all the movements are slow and relaxing. Breaking once during 32 minutes isnt half bad. She is still on place as I type this... One hour later!! Good Girl, Scout!!
