Why did I move so quickly Through fire and through flame? Looking back, what lingers Are footprints in the gray. Everything I reached for Slipped right through my hands. Dreams I thought were solid Scattered into sand. I tried to hold the moment, Tried to make it stay — But time was always moving Just a step away. I don’t ask anymore Why I lived that way. Standing in the wake of time, There’s nothing left to weigh. The days I held on tight, The nights I lost the fight They all belong to me. What I tried so hard to keep Found its way to leave. Promises I swore to guard Fell like autumn leaves. Still, the road behind me Is proof that I was here. Not everything was meant to last, But every step was real. Every scar upon my heart Is something I can feel. Some things fade like summer light, Some refuse to stay But every mile I walked Still carries yesterday. I don’t ask anymore Why it slipped away. Time keeps moving forward, It doesn’t need my say. The days I stood up strong, The days I got it wrong They all belong to me. Too many years have passed To blame somebody now. And telling every reason Would only drag me down. Some answers fade to silence, Some memories remain. I don’t ask anymore How I came this far.
