I Let Claude Configure Git and GitHub (Here’s What Worked)
Git is a tool I’ve used for 15+ years — but Claude Code and Cursor now do most of the writing, committing, and log parsing for me. In this video, I set up Git and GitHub on a fresh macOS machine using Nix, with Claude acting as my primary collaborator. We walk through Git identity, GitHub CLI auth, aliases, ZSH functions, and the tradeoffs of declarative vs manual configuration — all while stress-testing what AI is actually good at in a real developer workflow. This isn’t “AI replaces developers.” It’s “AI takes over the boring, error-prone parts so humans can focus on taste.” Topics covered: • AI-assisted Git and GitHub workflows • Nix + macOS (nix-darwin) setup • Git aliases and ZSH ergonomics • Managing dotfiles without Home Manager • Designing workflows for humans and AI Chapters 00:00 Let AI Take Over Git Work 00:26 Build a Fresh Mac with Nix + Claude 03:10 Resolve Where Declarative Config Breaks Down 03:59 Reuse Your Existing Git Muscle Memory 07:03 Choose a Sustainable dotfiles Strategy (Without Home Manager)
