“You’ll never get another chance to see it like this,” said the tuk-tuk driver through his face mask as he dropped me at the entrance to Cambodia’s iconic Angkor Wat — the largest religious building in the world.
It was July 2020. Covid had already stripped the thousand-year-old temple of its tourists.
For years they had come from every country, flooding in daily to marvel at Angkor Wat.
Now it was empty — not a soul in sight.
Unjostled, I wandered through the ancient monument at my leisure.
I was also fortunate to be staying in nearby Siem Reap — equally deserted — with my trusty iPhone in hand.
