In this video, I build my own DIY vacuum former to create a lighter bodyshell for my RC car.
My current 3D printed bodyshell weighs 810 grams, which seriously affects performance. So I decided to explore vacuum forming as a lightweight alternative.
I started with a fully 3D printed mini vacuum former, which surprisingly worked on the first try. After that, I designed and built a larger wooden vacuum former to handle bigger parts like an RC bodyshell.
But scaling things up turned out to be more challenging than expected…
